I've finally surrendered to the fact that The Way is Up is doomed to be bogged down by flashbacks. Currently working on the next chapter, "Father," which is about a young Lore overhearing what Doctor Soong really thinks about him, as well as some early signs of his violent nature. We also get a brief moment of B4 learning to swear. My, they grow so fast.
I'm also working on another TNG fic titled "Forgotten Sons" and it's frustrating me no end at the moment. I wrote several pages of a prologue, but then wondered if that would hinder the mystery of the story, so started straight with the crew on the bridge but...I hate it. I can't get the tone down right. The prologue is so much better! But even if I keep the prologue I'd still have to come back to the damn bridge scene! I can't cut around it, since Q's appearence is what sets this whole horrid thing in motion! Ghrglfritz!
The prologue has some mystery in itself, since it is not explained fully until the Enterprise crew arrives, and I try to show what life is like for the colonists from their view. But then when the crew does arrive, the whole GASP! moment is lost, if not a little redundant.
But the stupid bridge scene is lacking depth and pace and I can't fix it and aargh.
And that is today's rant. Along with the fact that the constantly loading, animation-heavy ads of DA fuck up my typing and browsing badly. I have to wait for them to finish before the browser unsticks itself, and since they reload every. damn. minute. this also gets frustrating.
